  • Desmond Dekker was a Jamaican ska, rocksteady and reggae singer-songwriter and musician. Born in Jamaica, he spent his formative years in Kingston. From a young age he regularly attended the local church with his grandmother and aunt. This early religious upbringing, as well as his enjoyment of singing hymns, led to a lifelong religious commitment. In 1969, Dekker took permanent residency in the UK, and In 1984, he was declared bankrupt. He died of a heart attack at his home in England, aged 64. He was divorced and was survived by his son Desmond Dekker Jnr and daughter Desrene Dekker. [more] - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmond_Dekker https://www.discogs.com/ja/artist/64403-Desmond-Dekker
  • Jo-Ann Greene, AllMusic Guide - Probably no other Jamaican artist has brought more international acclaim to his island home than Desmond Dekker, barring, of course, Bob Marley, but Dekker came first. Many were introduced to the island's unique musical sound by the singer's many hits, most notably "Israelites" and "0.0.7. (Shanty Town)." Needless to say, he was even more influential in his homeland. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, the star-to-be was orphaned in his teens. Left to earn a living on his own, he apprenticed as a welder. It was his workmates who first noted his vocal talents, as the youngster sang around the workshop. [more] - https://www.allmusic.com/artist/desmond-dekker-mn0000819344 http://desmonddekker.com
